Welcome to the Missouri Personal Finance Challenge

The Challenge is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of Personal Finance by competing with other students across the state in multiple-choice and "Quiz Bowl" examinations.

This year the Missouri Council on Economic Education, with support from the Centers for Economic Education across the state will host the 7th Annual Missouri Personal Finance Challenge.

Student participants receive certificates of recognition, awards and accolades.

Middle School Level Missouri Personal Finance Challenge

Missouri Middle Schools students will be allowed to participate in the first round of online competition this year against other Middle School teams. 1st and 2nd place teams in the state will be announced and and receive a plaque for their school, but Middle School teams will not advance to the Statewide levels.

High School Level

The preliminary or qualifying round of the Challenge will be online. In the first round, each team of four students will complete online exams that cover topics in

  • Earing Income & Protcting and Insuring
  • Using Credit & Buying Goods and Services
  • Saving & Finacial Investing

The top two placing teams in each region will advance to the State Finals in Jefferson City on Friday, April 19, 2013.At the State Finals, teams will participate in 3 rounds of mulitple choice testing with a final quiz bowl between to two top scoring teams.

The Prizes for the Missouri state Personal Finance Challege include
1st place $250.00 per student on team and teacher
2nd place $100.00 per student on team and teacher

The 1st place team at the State Finals will represent Missouri during the National Personal Finance Challenge on May 2, 2013 in St. Louis.

No formal courses in Personal Finance are required. Any team of students interested in Personal Finance is encouraged to compete, but must have an adult coach. Schools may enter multiple teams in the online competition.

There is no cost to either teachers or students to participate in the Personal Finance Challenge ONLINE!

Research has shown that student competitions increase student participation, promote attendance, and help students achieve higher grades and test scores.

For teachers, the Challenge provides a useful tool to help encourage students and generate excitement for classroom materials.
